This former rancher has been completely transformed by a garage addition, second story that represents a complete shift in the architectural style, and a kitchen open to the living space creating a contemporary interior feel. Paul and Jason worked closely with the homeowners to customize and design their hand-made cabinetry for this utilitarian work space.
The existing floor plan wasn’t functioning well for this family of six, so they enlisted the Harmon team to add a garage with a master suite and a second bedroom above, renovate the downstairs to create an eat-in kitchen open to the living space, and add a mudroom connecting this “great room” space to the new garage. During the construction process the family also decided to add a bump out with gorgeous floor to ceiling Pella windows that will create a holiday showcase for their Christmas tree.
With any renovation project unexpected things can arise with the existing construction that force changes to the schedule and budget. This job uncovered a leak in the basement, as well as a septic issue. These issues required adjustments right at the outset. Working with a team of professionals who have established relationships with competent tradespeople, and having established a good rapport with the local permitting departments helps to expedite changes and minimize disruptions. At the beginning of the project we highlighted the wonderful working relationship we have established with Steve Fennington at Frederick County Bank, and we would like to highlight again what an asset his professional involvement provides when challenges arise on a project.
